West Hempstead High School hosted a Virtual Enterprise tradeshow on Dec. 11. Virtual Enterprise is an organization that partners with schools to provide meaningful hands-on career experiences with a task-based curriculum.

The trade show consisted of students from different schools setting up booths for their businesses and selling their product to potential buyers.  Michael Silberman, a business teacher at the high school, teaches the Virtual Enterprise class and prepared students for the tradeshow throughout the semester.

Virtual Enterprise gives students the opportunity to discover what options they have for future careers and where they might see themselves excel. “I like that it gives you a sense of experience for the outside world before you’re really in it,” said Romano Vlahov, a junior at West Hempstead High School.

The West Hempstead High School classes created, developed and presented two businesses, A Helping Hand and At Your Service. A Helping Hand develops short-term volunteer programs to encourage travelers to immerse themselves in other cultures. At Your Service offers curated trips and events for consumers, taking all of the planning out of the equation for travelers.

The day was filled with collaboration, sales tactics and conversations among peers. The district thanks all those who planned and participated in the event.
