In keeping with an annual tradition, Michelle Notti, Principal of George Washington Elementary School held a welcome back assembly on Sept. 12 to discuss the characteristics and expectations of a successful student.

Addressing an audience of teachers, faculty and students, Mrs. Notti began the assembly by discussing the importance of reading every day, staying determined and continuing to try after every failure.

She read David Shannon’s book, A Bad Case of the Stripes, asking students to focus on the narrative and illustrations to understand the author’s message of expressing oneself and accepting others for their differences.

Concluding the assembly, Mrs. Notti and members of the Site-Based Team, a shared decision-making team comprised of parents, teachers and administrators, honored students with summer reading certificates for completing “Soar into Reading,” this year’s summer reading challenge, and awarding three summer readers from each grade with raffle prizes.
