The Circle of Life

West Hempstead Middle School’s drama club presented the musical Disney’s “The Lion King Junior” for students, faculty and community members on Nov. 17 and 18.

An adaptation of the 1994 Academy Award-winning Disney film, “The Lion King” is the story of a young and carefree lion prince, Simba, who lives in the flourishing African Pride Lands. When the unimaginable happens, Simba’s wicked uncle, Scar, takes his father’s life; Simba leaves the Pride Lands, abandoning his loss and responsibilities. With the help of two hilarious and unlikely friends, Simba starts anew, but when the weight of responsibility and desperate plea from the now devastated Pride Lands come to find the adult prince, Simba must take on his daunting enemy and fulfill his destiny to be king.

The cast gave a roaring performance as they transformed into the characters of Simba, Scar, Timon and Pumbaa for the production, which was directed and choreographed by West Hempstead High School alumni Michael Finn and Samantha Lee. Jonathan Obando performed as young Simba and Ayden Grant as the adolescent lion, Catherine Andree took the stage by storm as Scar, and Melissa Nuñez (Timon) and Sara Taraquino (Pumbaa) had the audience laughing and singing along to all of the classic musical numbers.

The Middle School drama club would like to express their gratitude to Director of Fine Arts and Assistant Principal Jonathan Trapani and faculty advisor Suzanne Parker–Hall for their unconditional support and dedication to another fall musical.
