Cornwell Avenue fifth-graders built a robot to perform tasks during a STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics lesson led by district Science Director Joseph Cangemi.

On Nov. 21, John Santoro’s class utilized the Mindstorm NXT Lego Robotics kit to assemble a robot to complete a task. Applying their 21st century skills of critical thinking, strategic planning and collaborative settings, students were asked to use an array of sensors including touch, ultrasonic, color detection, sound, light and three motor ports to make the robot move across the desk.

Placing wheels and sensors the students used light, sound and touch to guide the robot to move up, down and turn right and left around the area.
