West Hempstead MS Inducts Its Largest NJHS Chapter In School History

The West Hempstead Middle School National Junior Honor Society inducted 68 members on Jan. 27. The largest cohort since 2009.

Teachers, staff and family members gathered in the middle school cafeteria for an induction ceremony of nine eighth-graders and 59 seventh-graders. To become a members of the NJHS, students must maintain High Honor Roll status, which requires an average of 90 or above, for five consecutive quarters. They must also receive a recommendation from four of their teachers and write an essay that explains why they should be inducted into the society.

“I have been the advisor for the National Junior Honor Society since 2009, and this is the largest number of inductees we’ve had since my tenure,” said English teacher Suzanne Parker-Hall. “These students demonstrate the characteristics and ambitions of lifelong learners and enlightened citizens.”
