West Hempstead High School administrators, student volunteers and staff welcomed the Class of 2021 during an orientation at the school on Aug. 30.

Approximately 165 incoming freshmen spent the morning becoming familiar with the building and receiving tips for success in their high school careers. Led in groups by upperclassmen and members of Athletes Helping Athletes, the ninth-graders participated in ice breakers, met their guidance counselors, reviewed their schedules, and gained a better understanding of the expectations, challenges and extracurricular activities that lie ahead.

High School Principal Alvaro Escobar and Assistant Principals Adam Hopkins and Michelle Lambo-Maron look forward to working with the Class of 2021.

The High School Leadership Team imparted an inspiring message to the incoming freshmen. “The formula for success at the high school is first, to take ownership for your learning in every class; second, to utilize our support system to help you navigate your high school journey; third, to find your passion, whether it is a team, a club or a course; and finally, to challenge yourself to make the high school a better place than when you first arrived and to develop into a more well-rounded and educated individual.”
