On April 4, fourth and fifth graders from George Washington School in West Hempstead competed in this year’s Upper Elementary Level kidOYO Code Conquest Hackathon Event.

A hackathon is a timed event in which teams compete against one another in coding challenges. Held at Bethpage High School, George Washington’s hackathon team, “The Hacking Attacking Rams,” was among 19 teams to participate in this year’s competition. In the hackathon, teams (each team consisting of eight students) worked together in programming challenges, which was designed to mimic the game of “Risk” where a completed programming challenge earns a territory. George Washington’s young tech wizards, led by STELLAR teacher Ms. Dara Perlow and sixth grade teacher Mrs. Jenna Mottola, showcased incredible problem-solving skills and teamwork throughout the competition.

The district would like to commend its future innovators on a job well done!
