This past Tuesday, WHe joined Principal Robyn Milliner and the @WHGWashington team for a Bright Spot Learning Walk — a structured, 90-minute inquiry into the school's instructional culture that left little doubt: something special is being built at George Washington Elementary.
The visit centered on three instructional priorities: Khanmigo implementation, small-group instruction, and workshop model implementation. Across every classroom, these weren't programs being piloted — they were practices in full, purposeful motion.
In Ms. Kachejian's 4th grade classroom, a workshop framework supported intentional small-group instruction, with students working independently while teacher-facilitated groups operated with precision. In Ms. Kopping's 5th grade, students engaged in project-based scientific investigations — positioned as knowledge builders, not knowledge receivers. And in Ms. Lynch's classroom, Khanmigo was integrated alongside small-group instruction, a forward-looking design that treats Khanmigo as a complement to — not a replacement for — the irreplaceable teacher-student relationship.
The student showcase reinforced every observation. GW students from both Arts and STELLAR programming spoke with ownership and clarity about their learning experiences. One student's enthusiastic description of KidOYO and 3-D printing reflected more than program familiarity — it reflected identity. Learning at @WHGWashington is connected, rigorous, and future-oriented. That's our Portrait of a Graduate, alive in the words of a child.
GW has cultivated a school culture where improvement is ongoing, collective, and deeply intentional — and every element of Tuesday's Bright Spot visit made that visible.
