From Jan. 26-30, Chestnut Street School in West Hempstead hosted an engaging literacy learning lab focused on strengthening foundational reading skills for the district’s youngest learners.

A dedicated Professional Learning Community of K-2 teachers collaborated with Chestnut Street’s literacy coach and staff developer to share, observe, and refine best practices during the literacy block. Through hands-on learning and meaningful dialogue, educators explored effective strategies, reflected on student needs, and brought new ideas back to their classrooms. This kind of collaboration ensures that every child benefits from high-quality instruction during these critical early years.

The district is inspired by the commitment of our staff and grateful to the Chestnut team for opening their classrooms and sharing their expertise across the West Hempstead school community.
