West Hempstead Secondary School senior Kylen Rodriguez earned $588,000 in scholarships with the hope of studying criminal justice in college.

The West Hempstead School District is proud to announce that West Hempstead Secondary School senior Kylen Rodriguez has been awarded $588,000 in scholarships.

Rodriguez plans on studying criminal justice in college to become a criminologist. Her fascination and passion for becoming a criminologist stems from an incident involving a family member and her desire to improve the criminal justice system.

When asked what the scholarships mean to her, she said, “They mean so much to me. Without the scholarships, I probably would not be going to college.”

Additionally, Rodriguez was nominated for Student of the Quarter at Nassau BOCES Barry Tech career and technical education high school. The district congratulates Rodriguez on earning her scholarships toward a collegiate program in criminology.
