West Hempstead Secondary School recently launch a meaningful new student-led initiative through its Key Club called “Bravery Bags,” designed to bring comfort, encouragement, and smiles to children facing medical treatments, emergency room visits, or extended hospital stays.
Led by Key Club Advisor Ms. Zuluaga and Club President Jamason Caddle, the initiative reflects the compassion and community spirit that continue to define West Hempstead Secondary School. The Bravery Bags were thoughtfully assembled with comforting and engaging items such as mini stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, stickers, and handwritten encouragement cards personalized with uplifting messages from students. The initiative was created with the hope of bringing moments of comfort and joy to children who may be experiencing fear, uncertainty, or loneliness during hospital visits and treatments. On May 26, students organized the donations for NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island.
Through this project, West Hempstead Secondary School’s Key Club continues to demonstrate the importance of empathy, leadership, and service by encouraging students to make a meaningful difference within the broader community. The secondary school looks forward to growing the Bravery Bags initiative and continuing to inspire acts of kindness both inside and outside the classroom.
