West Hempstead’s Rockin’ Rams celebrate Homecoming victory

It may have been a rainy afternoon, but there was no shortage of Ram Pride at West Hempstead Secondary School’s Homecoming football game on Sept. 28.

The combined West Hempstead/East Rockaway varsity football team celebrated their first Homecoming as the Rockin’ Rams with a 32-21 victory over Elmont — earning their first win of the season in front of an enthusiastic West Hempstead crowd.

The Homecoming celebration was originally scheduled for Sept. 26 but was postponed due to the Nor’easter. Despite the wet weather and the change in schedule, the West Hempstead community came out to support the Rams. Leading the way on the field was running back Tristen Rose, who powered his way for 173 rushing yards and four touchdowns to help secure the victory.

While the rain may have been falling, the energy in the stands never let up. West Hempstead’s cheerleaders and marching band kept the crowd entertained and energized throughout the afternoon, adding plenty of school spirit to an already memorable Homecoming celebration.

For West Hempstead Secondary School, the day represented more than just a football victory. It was a celebration of community, tradition and Ram Pride — and a milestone as the school marked its first Homecoming as the Rockin’ Rams. The Rams will look to carry that momentum and Ram Pride into the remainder of the season.
