Good afternoon,
FamilyID is closing tonight at 8:00pm. FamilyID is the only way to register your child for the fall sports season for grades 7&8.
Parents and students
I need your assistance if you want to have a 7&8 football team this season. Please encourage parents to register their children by tonight.
Currently there are only 14 students registered for grades 7&8 football but only 7 students are cleared to start the season (students that have a valid physical). The other students still need to submit a valid physical. If you received an updated physical from your doctor this past week please upload the physical form to FamilyID and email me as well at cmistretta@whufsd.com.
The New York State Public High School Athletic requires use to have a minimum of 16 students to play in a game. Currently we only have 7 students to cleared to play football. If we do not have 16 students then the games become scrimmages. There is no flexibility in the schedule to make changes to move the games to a different date.
If we are unable to field a team the two options are the football coaches can run intramurals with the students who want to play football or the students have the option to tryout for another team.
This is a difficult task to field a 7&8 football team because we no longer have a community football team (feeder program). If we do not field a 7&8 football team this year this will hurt the future of our football program in West Hempstead.
I will have a nurse come in this Monday to clear students to play. As a reminder the nurse is the only person who can clear students to play. The nurse has to review your child’s physical.
Thank you
