Letter to the community

June 22, 2025

Dear Families and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you about the heat wave expected to impact our area over the next few days, with Tuesday forecasted to experience the most severe conditions. I have spoken with various constituent groups and vendors and considered multiple alternatives to address this situation. Our students and staff's safety and well-being remain our top priority, and we want to inform you of the measures we are taking during this period.

Heat Safety Measures

While each option presents its own considerations, we have implemented the following protocols:

Hydration: We will maintain adequate water supplies and ensure students stay properly hydrated throughout the day

Designated Cooling Areas: We will cycle students through air-conditioned rooms that we have designated as cooling spaces to provide regular relief from the heat

Modified Outdoor Activities: All outdoor activities and recess periods will be adjusted or moved indoors as necessary

Increased Monitoring: Staff will closely monitor students for any signs of heat-related distress

Parent Choice and Early Dismissal

We understand and respect that, as parents and guardians, you may choose to make alternative arrangements for your children during this extreme weather event. If you decide to:

Keep your child home: We will mark the absence as excused due to weather-related safety concerns.

Pick up your child early: Please send a note with your child in the morning indicating your planned pickup time. This advance notice will help us manage dismissals more efficiently and ensure a smooth process for all families.

*Final exams and Regents exams for secondary school students will proceed as scheduled - attendance is mandatory.*
