Bus Safety

October 6, 2025

Dear Families,

I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of following safety protocols when riding the school bus. The safety of every child is our top priority, and it is essential that students understand and follow the expectations to keep themselves and others safe.

Recently, I have spoken directly with some of our students regarding unsafe and inappropriate behaviors on the bus, such as getting out of their seats, hitting, or playing in ways that could cause harm. Please know that these behaviors are taken very seriously, as they put all children at risk while the bus is in motion.

We ask for your partnership in reminding your child that:

  • They must remain seated at all times while the bus is moving.

  • Hands, feet, and belongings should be kept to themselves.

  • Voices should be kept at an inside level to avoid distracting the driver.

  • Food and drinks should not be consumed on the bus.

  • Respectful, safe behavior is expected at all times.

I want you to know that the district was able to secure a grant for bus matrons at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we were unable to fill these positions. We continue to explore solutions to provide additional support and supervision on our buses.

Students need to understand that failure to follow these expectations may result in the loss of bus privileges. If unsafe or inappropriate behavior occurs, consequences will be applied following our school's progressive discipline approach, which may include warnings, parent conferences, temporary bus suspensions, or permanent loss of bus riding privileges, depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior.

Riding the bus is a privilege, not a right, and it can only continue when all children are committed to being safe and respectful. As the superintendent, I will continue to work directly with the children, and I look forward to collaborating with you as partners to ensure that the bus is a safe environment for everyone. Together, we can help our students build safe and respectful habits that will last well beyond the bus ride.

Thank you for your support and commitment to student safety.

Sincerely,

Dan Rehman

Superintendent of Schools
