Last evening the BOE updated our school reopening plan. There has been one change. Please see below.
Effective June 9, 2021, face masks are not required to be worn outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor school sports. However, Responsible Parties may choose to require face masks outdoors on school grounds, subject to the parameters of this guidance. No student, teacher, staff member may be prevented from wearing an acceptable face mask voluntarily on school grounds.
Our teachers will work with our younger students to ensure proper use and storage of the masks. #RamResolve

THE WEST HEMPSTEAD BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL HOLD AN EMERGENCY MEETING ON TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 2021, AT, 7:30 P.M. IN THE HIGH SCHOOL VIDEO BOARD ROOM AT 400 NASSU BOULEVARD, WEST HEMPSTEAD TO DISCUSS CURRENT COVID 19 PROTOCOLS.

The NYS Ed Dept. has been in communication with Executive staff regarding the attached letter from Dr. Howard Zucker, New York State Commissioner of Health. According to conversations with Executive staff, the intent of this letter was to obtain a response from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding differing standards for summer camps and schools; it has not changed any existing arrangements. Therefore, schools should continue to operate under their existing procedures until further notice. No changes have been, or will be, made by the Executive until after Monday June 7 to afford the CDC an opportunity to respond to the letter.
This past Friday, the Department of Health announced its intent to change its stance on masks. We have attached a copy of the letter to the website under "Announcements" with this message.
Dr. Zucker stated his intent to change the guidance on Monday, June 7. While we wait for guidance, we are planning to hold a Board of Education meeting.
As you may know, we must hold a public meeting before any changes can be made to current protocols. We must modify our current reopening plan to match any changes.
We ask for your patience as we wait for official guidance and follow appropriate protocols. Our current plan calls for everyone to wear a mask as per the prior guidance requirements. If and when the guidance changes, we will seek input as to whether the mask requirement is to be removed.
